Dolmen Park

Dolmen Garden at the museum of Yeungnam University is composed of dolmens whichwere once scattered in Yeungnam Province. As these dolmens were faced with destruction due to dam construction and development of building lot, they were moved to the museum. Dolmen was a tomb for ruling class people in Bronze Age (B.C. 1000-B.C. 300). Approximately 40,000 dolmens have been found in southern part of Korea and about 14,000 dolmens in northern part of Korea. Although there are in general two types of dolmens, southern type (checker board style) and northern type (table style), in Korea, dolmens without orthostate under the cap stone are also found. Either stone outlined tomb or stone cist exists under the dolmen. As grave goods, stone daggers and stone arrowheads are largely found. Sometimes plain pottery or red polished pottery as well as bronze artifacts are also produced.
